I mentioned some time ago that
Taradale is allocated two entries
in this year’s event but since more than two teams wanted to take
part there will be a playoff tomorrow (Tuesday 9th – 8.30
am) to determine who may enter.
The Chartered Clubs Ttournament will be
held on 6-7-8 March 2007 at Port Ahuriri Bowling Club.
More Fun On The Green
Toss-up
The boys had arranged to have a practice roll-up before the big
event. Sunday morning was chosen, and they all arrived on time
except Fred. When he finally arrived, the others all asked; "What
kept you?"
“Well, it was a toss-up as to whether I went to church or joined you
blokes bowling," Fred replied.
"That shouldn't have taken long," said the skip.
"Well it did. I had to toss 13 times".

The
main idea in bowls is to learn to accept what cannot be altered, and
to keep on doing one's own best whether the prospect be bleak or
rosy.
Playing out of
Turn
At a BBQ last night the topic of bowls reared its head and one
person asked what happens if a player delivers a bowl out of turn.
Should the bowl be stopped before coming to rest – and, if so, by
whom? What happens if it disturbs another bowl or the jack? What
happens if it doesn’t disturb anything? Before looking at the
section below do you know the answer?
Section 12 – Irregularities
47 Irregularities during
play
47.1 Playing out of turn
1 If a player plays out of turn, the opposing skip can stop the bowl
and return it to the player to play it in the proper order.
2 If the bowl has come to rest and has not disturbed the head, the
opposing skip should choose whether to:
· leave
the head as it is and have their team play two bowls one after the
other to get back to the proper order of play; or
· return
the bowl and get back to the proper order of play.
3 If the bowl has disturbed the head, the opposing skip should
choose whether to:
· leave
the disturbed head as it is and have their team play two bowls one
after the other to get back to the proper order of play;
· replace
the head in its former position, return the bowl and go back to the
proper order of play; or
· declare
the end dead.
