Influences Affecting Play |
SECTION 11 - INFLUENCES AFFECTING PLAY 50 PLAY IRREGULARITIES If an earlier informality, illegality or omission in any end has not been noted before the first bowl in that end has been delivered, the play of such end shall not be rendered invalid, nor shall a replay of any part of the end be required. Any subsequent incident in the end shall be subject to the normal application of the Laws. 50A Playing out of turn When a player has played before their turn, the opposing Director shall have the right to stop the bowl, and it shall be returned to be played in the proper sequence. If the bowl so played has come to rest as part of the head and has not disturbed the head the opposing Director shall have the option of returning the bowl to be played in the proper sequence or leaving the bowl where it has come to rest and having two bowls played in succession to restore the correct order. If the bowl so played has disturbed the head, the opposing Director or Opponent shall have the option of: allowing the disturbed head to remain, and having two bowls played in succession to restore the proper sequence of play; or replacing the head to its former position and returning the bowl to be replayed in the correct sequence; or declaring the end dead. 50B Playing the wrong bowl A bowl played by mistake shall be replaced by the player’s own bowl by the opposing Director or Marker. 50C Changing bowls A player shall not be permitted to change sets of bowls during the course of a game, or in a resumed game, on penalty of disqualification, unless a bowl has been so damaged in the course of play that, in the opinion of the Umpire, the bowl is unfit to play. 50D Omitting to play (i) If the result of an end has been agreed upon, or the head has been touched in the agreed process of determining the result, then a player who has omitted to play a bowl shall forfeit the right to play it. (ii) A player who has neglected to play a bowl in the proper sequence shall forfeit the right to play that bowl, if a bowl has been played by each Team before the mistake was discovered.
PLAY INTERRUPTIONS 51A Game stoppages When a game of any kind is stopped, either by mutual arrangement, by the Controlling Body or by the Umpire after appeal on account of darkness or the conditions of the weather, or any other valid reason, it shall be resumed with the scores as they were when the game stopped. An end commenced, but not completed, shall be declared null. If the last bowl required to be played in an end has been delivered, the result of the end shall be determined after such bowl has come to rest. (ii) If the players leave the rink on the instruction of the Umpire after an Umpire has upheld an appeal on account of inclement weather or any other reason, the Controlling Body shall specify in its conditions of play any adjustments that shall be made in the number of ends played, the number of shots up or the time of play of the game. (iii) Where a game is reduced in duration (ends, shots or time), the Controlling Body will define a minimum duration (ends, shots or time) which must be played before the result of the game shall be considered as completed and the final result valid for that game. 51B Substitutes in a resumed game If in a resumed game any one of the original players in any Team be not available, one Substitute shall be permitted as stated in Law 40 and 41. Players, however, shall not be transferred from one Team to another.
DELAYING PLAY Players shall play their bowl without delay and when players are changing ends as part of the play this change shall occur without delay.
LEAVING THE GREEN If during the course of a Side or Team game a player is unable to continue owing to illness or other reasonable cause, the player’s place may be filled by a Substitute. No player shall be allowed to delay play by leaving the green, unless with the consent of the Opponent or opposing Skip, and then only for a period not exceeding ten minutes. Contravention of this Law shall entitle the Opponent or opposing Team to claim the game.
OBJECTS ON THE GREEN Under no circumstances, other than as provided in Laws 5, 23, 29,37 and 66 shall any extraneous object to assist a player be placed on the green, the bank, the Jack or a bowl.
UNFORESEEN INCIDENTS If during the course of play the position of the Jack or bowls at rest be disturbed by wind or storm the end shall be replayed unless the Directors or Opponents are agreed as to the replacement of Jack or bowls.
DISQUALIFICATION OF A PLAYER 56A Grounds for disqualification (i) The Controlling Body shall have the authority to disqualify a player under the following circumstances: (a) If the bias of a stamped bowl be in any way altered other than by an Accredited Tester. (b) If the impounding of a challenged set of bowls be prevented. (c) If invalid bowls, or bowls having only cancelled stamps, be used in a game. (d) If the player has not settled by the specified time any fine or other penalty imposed by any Controlling Body. (e) If the player behaves in a manner likely to bring the game of bowls into disrepute. (ii) The Controlling Body shall disqualify a player under the following circumstances: (a) If a challenge or any intimation thereof is made by any player to an Opponent or opposing player during the progress of a game (as detailed in Law 10A(ii)). (b) If a player in a competition or game shall play or practise on the rink of play on the day of play prior to commencement of the competition or game (as detailed in Law 14). (c) If a player shall change bowls during the course of a game, except as provided (as detailed in Law 50C).
DISQUALIFIED PLAYER IN A GAME If a disqualified player takes part in a game, the game shall be forfeited to the Opponent or opposing Team.
TIME-TABLE Where an event which is to be played is a Sides event, the Side Manager shall be at the venue in sufficient time to carry out any duties required. The Controlling Body shall specify in its conditions of play the penalty to be incurred when any Team or player is not in position to start at the scheduled starting time. When any Team or player has failed to be in position to commence play 10 minutes after the scheduled starting time the game shall be awarded to the Opponent or opposing Team unless the Controlling Body specifies otherwise or the Opponent or opposing Team agrees to play the game and it can be completed within any playing schedule laid down by the Controlling Body.
BOWLING AIDS The National Authority shall be the authority to approve all player ancillary equipment and the conditions under which such equipment may be used.
