Result of End

SECTION 9 - RESULT OF END

43 THE SHOT

A shot or shots shall be adjudged to be the bowl or bowls nearer to the Jack than the nearest bowl played by the Opponent or opposing players.

When the last bowl has come to rest, if either Director or Opponents desires, 30 seconds may elapse before the shots are counted.

At any time during the measuring process any bowl which is in danger of falling may be secured in its position by either Director or Opponents. If the bowls are not secured and fall of their own volition prior to or during measurement the bowls shall remain in the new position and the shot determination continued. All shots previously agreed to shall count.

No bowls shall be moved until both Directors or Opponents have agreed to each shot.

As the shots are agreed they may be removed from the head and placed in a group in a position where they will not interfere with any measuring.

The number of bowls placed in the group shall be agreed by the Directors or Opponents and the shots scored in the end indicated to both the Skips and the Seconds.

44 MEASURING CONDITIONS TO BE OBSERVED

No measuring shall be allowed until the end has been completed.

No apparatus shall be used to estimate the shot or position of bowls until an end is completed.

(a) All measurements shall be made to the nearest point of each object. If a bowl requiring to be measured is resting on another bowl so as to prevent its measurement, the best available means shall be taken to secure its position, and the other bowl shall be removed.

(b) The same course shall be followed where more than two bowls are involved, or where, in the course of measuring, a single bowl is in danger of falling or otherwise changing its position.

Where it is necessary to measure to a Jack or bowl in the ditch, and another Jack or bowl on the green, the measurement shall be made with an appropriate measure.

45 TIED END - NO SCORE

When at the conclusion of play in any end the nearest bowl of each Team is touching the Jack, or is deemed to be equidistant from the Jack, or if no live bowl remains there shall be no score recorded. The end shall be declared tied and shall count as a played end.

46 PLAYING LAST BOWL

Nothing in these Laws shall make it mandatory for the last player to play the last bowl in any end, but the player shall declare to the Opponent or opposing Skip the intention to refrain from playing the bowl before the commencement of determining the result of the end and this declaration shall be irrevocable.
